DIPLOMA PROGRAMME

During the last two years of high school, students grow academically, socially and emotionally, developing the skills needed to make conscious decisions and individual choices.

In Grades 11 and 12 they have to face the academic challenge of choosing the academic concentration and a personal combination of subjects to later continue their education successfully in the most prestigious universities around the world.

Growing in their area of interest, the students acquire deep and broad knowledge, apply their skills to individual learning, organization and critical thinking and develop not only respect, but also understanding of different cultures and communities.

Uwekind is a Candidate School* for the Career-related Programme. This school is pursuing authorization as an IB World School. These are schools that share a common philosophy—a commitment to high quality, challenging,
international education that Uwekind International School believes is important for our students.
*Only schools authorized by the IB Organization can offer any of its four academic programmes: the Primary Years Programme (PYP), the Middle Years Programme (MYP), the Diploma Programme, or the Career-related

Diplomas

Our students have the opportunity to graduate with two diplomas – the international IB diploma and the Bulgarian diploma for completed high school education (with the academic concentration of their choice). Uwekind students are successfully accepted in prestigious universities around the world.

IB Diploma Programme

In the DP students choose subjects from 6 areas, which they study at a high or a standard level. This includes at least two languages, at least one social and one nature science, mathematics and/or arts. In addition, they have to fulfill the requirements of the programme core.

The national program

During the second high school stage of intensive two foreign language instruction (German and English), students begin to study in proficiency the subjects of their chosen academic concentration (Literature and History, Mathematics and IT).

Which IB Diploma Programme subjects do we offer at Uwekind?

To fulfil the requirements of the IB Diploma, every student has to study six subjects from the Diploma and to take at least one exam in every subject group:
Group 1: Language and Literature

Group 2: Language Acquisition

Group 3: Individuals and Societies
  • Business Management
  • Environmental systems and societies
    (only Standard Level)
  • Geography
Group 4: Experimental Sciences
  • Biology
  • Computer science
  • Chemistry
  • Environmental systems and societies
    (only Standard level)
  • Physics
Group 5: Mathematics
  • Mathematics: analysis and approaches
  • Mathematics: applications and interpretation
Group 6: The arts
  • Visual Arts

Instead of a Group 6 subject, the students may choose another subject from Groups 2, 3 or 4.

Only at Uwekind

In the DP we offer Business Management, Computer Science, Environmental Systems and Societies and Visual Arts. Our students also have the possibility to take extra DP courses online.

Exams

To successfully graduate from the DP, at the end of the second year (Grade 12), students take exams in all subjects. They must also write an Extended Essay for a chosen by them subject, an essay for Theory of Knowledge and a completed Creativity, Activity and Service program.

Universities

We support our students during the application process to universities, offer individual consultations at school and collaborate directly with universities in Europe and in Bulgaria. Our graduates are wanted students in the most prestigious universities around the world.
